I Do Not Come To You By Chance... Or Do I?

Growing up, one of my biggest fears was making friends. Sounds crazy, right?
Most kids at certain age are eager to meet and make new friends. Well, that's why I like to think myself, a special breed– limited edition.

If I got a ten Naira note for every '"what's wrong?" "why are you frowning?" "you look sad!" "who got you upset?" "brighten your face!" "you should smile often!"' questions and remarks I got growing up to this very moment, I probably would have a million or two stacked up somewhere. And no, I'm not exaggerating.
People often say "Nobody is an island." I smile each time I hear that and tell myself, It's simply because because they are yet to experience me. How do I explain to anyone who genuinely cares to understand that I easily get bored around people and come alive when I am all by myself?
Somehow, solitude energizes me in ways company can't.
Make it make sense if you can.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate people. On the contrary, I do love people, I enjoy company, I don't lock myself away from the world or run from meaningful relationships. I simply learned very early that my happiest moments often happen in my own company. While others are energized by crowds and constant activities, I find peace in quiet spaces, sitting with my thoughts, a good book, or simply being by myself and sometimes, with my phone; my dearest company. I enjoy long walks and runs, but I've been conditioned to not engage in them due to the environment I find myself in, for now.

Some, ignorantly, has excused my demeanor for uptight, stubborn, mean, sad, and to others, I'm witty, different, crazy, a nerd, disciplined and a host of other adjective.

Whatever your opinion is, I quite agree with you. That's the personality you're exposed to, due to our level of friendship.

Thankfully, my Resting Bitch Face has more times than none, save me from unsolicited friendship.

So, if we happened to meet here and you've known me for a while and have an opinion about me, perhaps, you didn't come by chance... or perhaps you did. Either way, welcome to my little corner. I hope that as you read my stories, reflections, and ramblings, you'll come to know the person behind the words and maybe, just maybe, discover a little of yourself too.

Stay Loved,
Naz
